Our Little Genius

The past few weeks have brought many developmental changes in our little Ava.  About two weeks ago, Ava cut her first tooth and within a few days three other teeth joined that pioneering first.  This long awaited first also brought with it her first “cold” and her first sick child visit to the doctor.  She also had her first big inconsolable cry.  After a few days of a runny nose, a picky appetite and a cranky Ava, all was back to normal and Ava now has four new teeth.
This week we discovered we had a little genius (I know, all parents think that) in our house when she figured out how to pick up a Cheerio with her chop stick (she stuck one end into the hole) and put it in her mouth, just like mommy and daddy eat (she hasn’t quite figured out how to do that with the spoon yet however). Last night Gary and I had fun saying the titles of her favorite books and were amazed that Ava could pick that particular book off the shelf to bring to us to read.  We would say “Chika Chika Boom Boom” and she would find that bright orange book, with the palm tree on the front, and would bring over for us to read.
Luckily, Ava is getting her appetite back and we have discovered that she loves fried rice, onigiri with tuna and nori sheets (dried seaweed).  It is funny for us to think that Ava prefers Tofu over meat and eats seaweed like chips.  Her favorite snack however is bananas, which is great because we currently have six banana trees growing in our front yard!
